My name is Ethan Kline from the indie band Younger Colors. Today I give you a post full of satire but full of meaning. I’ve always wanted to spread a positive message with the band and have either done so with my offbeat and quirky instrumentals or through my optimistic demeanor towards everything. My most popular song entitled Eating Fish at PetSmart is a Luxury has always been an uplifting piece of mine that even won first in a music production contest in the state of Tennessee, but I am ashamed to be so insensitive in choosing that kind of title for a song. I believe every free American has the right to do whatever they wish with their PetSmart fish upon purchase, but for me to incite the consumption of these adorable pets is disgusting. I’d like to formally apologize to my fanbase for this stunt of mine and vow to be more considerate of living creatures.
Now that that is out of the way, I’d like to address a much larger issue. I love PetSmart fish. They are intelligent and sensitive beings which is why it is shocking to finally realize that these fish are being mistreated. These Betta fish are bred in unclean water and go days without food while being delivered to the United States. It’s not just happening at PetSmart, the mistreatment of Bettas is reported in Petco and other large pet stores. Don’t these suppliers know that fish have feelings? That they can hurt just like us? Something needs to be done about this. Petitions are a great way to spread awareness and encourage change. A petition I came across on moveon.org needs only fifty more signatures, and with your help, we can help put an end to the abuse of fish at PetSmart and other chains. Below is the link to sign as well as some helpful resources.
