So, here’s the thing:
Track has been kicking my butt these last few days, and I want to hate it but I can’t. I love the wind in my hair and how good it burns. Friday we actually have our first meet! I found today’s song of the day on Frank Ocean’s own playlist, Blonded:
We’ve got some new writers! 🖊
Thank you guys for giving me your feedback! I’d like to welcome Ethan Brownfield and Shelby Jackson to Younger Colors! They have both expressed interest in writing for the blog, and I am so happy we finally have some new faces. They will be taking over Wednesday’s articles, but once they are more familiar with Substack and get in the loop you’ll be seeing them Tuesdays and Thursdays. That’s right; if all goes to plan, Younger Colors will be back to posting every weekday!
Let me tell you about Miracle Messages! 💌
No one should experience homelessness alone. Miracle Messages is an award-winning nonprofit organization that helps the homeless rebuild their financial security and social support systems. To date, Miracle Messages has reunited over 500 families and provides monthly checks to those under their program. One out of three experiencing homelessness have lost their social support systems, and without them, they tend to stay homeless.
I’m proud to announce that Younger Colors is joining Miracle Messages in the fight to end realtional poverty! While you stream the upcoming album, flirt, you help those in poverty rebuild their lives. All profits from flirt will go straight into the pockets of the nonprofit.
Okay, let’s settle this: wheels or doors?🛞
I’m sorry you guys, I didn’t mean to split my viewers in half. I don’t even know where this trend began, but I have to say there are more wheels in the world than there are doors. Let me break it down for you: automobiles; engines; toys; conveyor belts; tables; chairs; skates. Sure, you could look at large cities like Atlanta and tell me I couldn’t count the number of doors in as little as one skyscraper, but if you take into account that nearly 100 million cars are produced annually worldwide, doors are easily outnumbered. I hate to break it like this to you, but wheels take the cake.
Let me know what you think!
Meet Ashley Cowan!❤
Who is Ashley Cowan? Tell us a bit about yourself.✨
My name is Ashley-Marie Tanackqua Cowan and I'm eighteen years old. The majority of my time is spent working at Etowah Health Care and Tennova Health Care as a PCT/CNA (patient care technician, certified nursing assistant) but in my little free time you can find me reading a good book with some iced coffee or doing some retail therapy. I really enjoy traveling and I'm currently making plans in the next two years to take a trip with my boyfriend to a different country; I'm thinking either Grece or Japan. I really enjoy learning about different cultures and to be able to experience a different culture in person would be an absolutely amazing opportunity.
Music can tell you a lot about a person. What have you been listening to lately?🎸
Some of my favorite songs right now include Overplayed by Thomas Day, Birthday Cake by Dylan Conrique, and Pray by Jessie Murphy. My all-time favorite bands are Mumford & Sons and Of Monsters and Men. I'm very into Indie and some underground artists. I especially love going on Spotify and finding lesser-known artists.
What are your college plans?🎓
My current college plan is to attend Cleveland State for two years to finish my core classes and hopefully figure out what to do with my life because at the moment I really have no idea what to pursue. I was so set on joining the health care field that I never planned for anything else, but after an incident at work, I'm rethinking my decision. I believe I'll figure it out, but it'll just take some time.
What advice would you give to current and upcoming Freshmen?💫
Some advice I would give would be not to underestimate yourself. You made it this far, so shoot for the stars! Also, take as many dual enrollment classes as you can because they are so much harder in college. Save yourself some tears.
What is your contribution to society?🌿
My contribution to society would be working at a nursing home, so I'm helping the elderly whose families can't help anymore or that were awarded to the state for whatever reason. I also have a part-time job working at Tennova in the emergency department.
How long have you been a reader of Younger Colors?🌈
I've been reading Younger Colors ever since it first started; it's a great way to start my morning.
Thanks for reading today’s post!🫶🏼
You can expect some of my best posts in your inbox real soon! I have special articles going on for the rest of March, and I can’t wait to share them with you all! I have all my field trips next week and let’s not forget the Spring Informal this weekend, so be on the lookout. I love you, guys, drink plenty of water and wear your seatbelt!
Until next time,
